Rooted in Success

17 attendees who remained at the end of the 2025 AGM posing around a TV screen showing the powerpoint of photos from this year's New Plotholder Award winners' plots.

We had a brilliant night at the City Chambers last Thursday, 20th Nov 2025

New Plotholder Awards

A huge thank you to Deacon Commander Nick Parry for presenting the awards with warmth and style. The Incorporation of Gardeners of Glasgow have long sponsored these awards, and we thank them for their generosity and their support.

Congratulations to this year’s winners:

  • 1st Place: Michael Cassidy (Sir John Stirling Maxwell) – £50 voucher
  • 2nd Place: Julie and Joe Simmons (Hamiltonhill) – £40 voucher
  • Highly Commended: Samantha Curley (High Carntyne)
  • Commended: Aras Sulaiman (Hamiltonhill) and Derek Curran (Croftburn)

Next year we plan to add a new award category: the Plotting On Award, for those who’ve had their plot for more than a year already.

Want to apply next year, or tell someone else to?

AGM

We reviewed the highlights of a successful year of GAF work:

  • a campaign that continues to gather steam on the issue of Growing a Good Allotment Community, which helps connect people at different allotment sites so they can share ideas about how to best cultivate a feeling of shared space and community on their different sites
  • a series of workshops on managing conflict, helping committees to head it off before it arises, and to plan out processes to deal with it when it does
  • a successful Potato Day, returning to its old stomping ground at the Pearce Institute in Govan
  • new-and-improved communications with our members through a proper mailing list platform where you can subscribe and unsubscribe without waiting for us to pick up your request (sign up here!)

Committee Updates

We said goodbye this year to Treasurer and previously long-time Chair of GAF, Jenny Reeves.

She’ll stay on as a member of the Potato Day organising group, but this was her last year as a full committee member.

We thank Jenny for her years of organising not just the committee but also many events and workshops for the wider membership to discuss important topics.
