Help us run Potato Day

We’re looking for volunteers to help out with managing our big annual fundraising event at the start of the season.

With 500 visitors, it can be a busy day so we need a team to help us:

  • Plan the day
  • Volunteer at a potato stall and help people pick out their potatoes, onions, garlic or shallots
  • Sell packets of seeds
  • Welcome people at the door and give directions
  • Take payments (mostly contactless via your phone or one of our card readers, but also some cash)
  • Direct people from the potato hall to the cafe
  • Set up / tidy up
  • No experience needed!

You can do do as many or as few of those as you like.

We’re looking for around 20 volunteers, so you’d be joining a big team of friendly faces.

We appreciate that not everyone can help all day, so even a few hours of your time would be great.

Not sure, but curious?

Shadow us this year!

  • Meet up online with Scott and a few others from the GAF executive committee to see how the whole show works
  • Learn the ropes
  • Bring along your new ideas

The physical event

Here’s a flavour of what February 2020 event looked like at the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre.

Potatoes are the main attraction, and ordering those is the biggest job, but there’s plenty more you could volunteer to help out with too!
