Presentation: Pruning Fruit Trees (Food Sustainability)
Thursday 5 August 2021 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm UTC+0
Eating fruit from historic apple trees enables us to enjoy the different tastes, scents and textures that our ancestors knew. We can experience this on our allotments because apples and pears can be grown in cordons and espaliers, plums and cherries as fans. These do not take up too much room or cause problems for neighbours.
John Butterworth had a collection of around a hundred cordons when running his organic fruit tree nursery in Ayrshire. On August 5th he will show a couple of short videos and then answer questions on how summer prune and care for the trees on your own plot. Learn how to share the re-discovery of our past abundance and eat your own fruit from September to March
