SUMMARY:Lost and Found: vegetable journeys and seed diversity // FebFest Day 2 of 6
DESCRIPTION:Take a journey through the past and present trajectories of Scottish heritage vegetables. \n\n\n\nRowan Lear will introduce Glasgow Seed Library and chair a panel of local speakers\, each with a perspective on plant biodiversity and traditional varieties\, why we want to grow them and how best to do this. \n\n\n\nTrained as a plant breeder of vegetable crops\, Toby Hodgkin worked on conservation of traditional crop varieties throughout the world for over 20 years and is now based in Leith\, spending time at Earth in Common – a Leith-based Community Croft.  \n\n\n\nRichie Walsh is the Scotland Coordinator for The Gaia Foundation’s Seed Sovereignty Programme. He has a background in amenity horticulture\, horticultural therapy and organic crop protection. He has a specific interest in heritage Scottish vegetable varieties.  \n\n\n\nDésirée Coral is an Ecuadorian-born artist\, and is currently a PhD student at DJCAD. A component of her research investigates the botanical trajectories of dyes. She explores and examines early global exchanges of plants and seeds\, from the Americas to the rest of the world and vice versa. \n\n\n\nRowan Lear is an artist\, researcher\, and a caretaker of Glasgow Seed Library since 2019. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nToby Hodgkin\n\n\n\n\n\nRichie Walsh\n\n\n\n\n\nDésirée Coral

SUMMARY:Presentation: An Evening About Peat (and going peat-free!)
DESCRIPTION:The starting pistol has sounded and we’re off! Another growing season is underway. As we all reach for the seed sowing kit and seed packets we will all be thinking about getting our hands on quality growing medium to ensure the best chances for our darling seedlings & plants. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a Q&A session with Dalefoot founder Jane Barker Thursday 8th April 7pm. Register below to get the link. \n\n\n\nWe’ll also have a showing of two films about the making of compost and the work that Dalefoot does in peat bog restoration (including Scotland). You can watch here beforehand if you like. \n\n\n\nDalefoot have been making composts from Lakeland bracken and sheep wool for over 10 years\, increasing the range and versatility of their products. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n
